Police in Dedza District have arrested Patrick Sandra in connection with a road traffic accident that saw a male pedal cyclist Joseph Kenamu being killed near Chimbiya Trading Centre in the district.
Dedza Police Station deputy publicist, Cassim Manda, said yesterday that Sandra is from Gwiritse Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kabudula, in Lilongwe District.
This comes barely a week after a police officer at Mtakataka Police Training College was also hit to death in another road accident. He was also cycling.
“Patrick Sandra was coming from Lilongwe heading for Dedza direction with three passengers on board. When he arrived at Chimbiya, it seems that he failed to control the vehicle and hit Joseph Kenamu.
“Following the impact, Kenamu, who was from Masitala Village, T/A Kaphuka, in Dedza District sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Dedza District Hospital,” Manda said.
Manda said Sandra is in police custody pending investigations.
