Malawi under-17 national football team will kick-start its Cosafa Youth Championship campaign against Angola on July 20 in Mauritius.

Cosafa released the fixture Monday on the sidelines of the on-going senior championship in Polokwane, South Africa.

The release of the fixtures follows a draw for the youth championship last week at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium where the Junior Flames were thrown in Group C also comprising Swaziland and Zimbabwe.

Malawi’s first match will take place at Auguste Vollaire in Flacq City followed by a tie against Zimbabwe at St Francois Xavier in Port Louis City on July 23.

The Derklerk Msakakuona side will wind up the group’s campaign by playing against Swaziland on July 25 at Vollaire.

Malawi will be seeking to better their second consecutive bronze medal finish in the championship which will take place in Mauritius for the second consecutive year.

Zambia are the defending champions. The overall winner of the event will earn a ticket to the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Tanzania next year.

Malawi has since started mobilising players for the championship.

Msakakuona told Monday’s edition of The Daily Times that good preparations would be crucial to the team’s success.
