Compensation delays threaten Zomba road project

by

Zomba Chingale Member of Parliament (MP), Wallace Chawawa, has said delays to compensate people affected by the construction of Lirangwe- Chingale –Machinga Road have the potential to negatively affect progress of the project.

President Peter Mutharika, in his State of the Nation Address, told the august House that the first phase of construction of the road has commenced

But, while underscoring the importance of the road once completed, Chawawa raised concern that some of the yet-to-be-compensated people may disrupt project activities.

“I would like to ask the government that the issue of compensation, which I raised sometime back here in Parliament, should be addressed to prevent stoppage of the work,” he said

Chawawa added that, since the project is funded using local resources, the government should provide all the necessary resources.

It has taken over 10 years for works on the 61.2-kilometre road to start.
