Regional women’s football leagues are scheduled to kick off on Saturday, courtesy of K9 million funding from Football Association of Malawi (Fam).

National Women’s Football Association President, Severia Chalira, said eight teams will battle for honours in each region.

“We have completed registration of teams in the Northern and Southern regions, and everything is set. Teams will play 28 games each in the first and second rounds,” Chalira said.

“This year’s league promises to be competitive because teams which performed well in Fam Cup will join this competition,” she added.

Meanwhile, the association has urged teams to refrain from hooliganism during the season.

Chalira also appealed to referees to be professional.

Malawi national football team is ranked 123 in the world.
