Fans in Lilongwe, Karonga and Chitipa districts will have a chance to pay their last respects to departed Malawi under-20 national football team striker Abel Mwakilama from Friday, Football Association of Malawi (Fam) General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, has announced.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Gunda said the body of Mwakilama is expected to arrive at Kamuzu International Airport at 2:30 pm Friday, followed by prayers at the same facility.
After the prayers, the remains will be taken to Chitipa where Mwakilama made a name by steering Chitipa United to the TNM Super League in 2016.
The body will proceed to Karonga on Saturday for burial the following day.
Mwakilama, who was playing his trade with Sporting Clube de Esmoriz in Portugal, died of suspected cerebral malaria three weeks ago to plunge Malawi in shock.
