Griffin Saenda backs senior players

Malawi national netball team Coach, Griffin Saenda Senior, has backed the return of senior players who missed last year’s two major events.

Saenda has recalled Tigresses duo Sindie Simtowe-Msowoya and Grace Mwafulirwa- Mhango, Kukoma Diamonds pair Towera Vinkhumbo- Msowoya and Caroline Mtukule-Ngwira.

Last year, the three, except Ngwira, missed the Fast5 Netball World Series and test matches against England due to family commitments.

Ngwira was part of the Fast5 squad but she was dropped during the tour of England.

Saenda said he recalled the senior players because they bring stability to the team.

“Young players can always look up to senior players because they are crucial. They help the squad to be stable because they have been in different game situations,” he said.

However, Saenda, reiterated that it was not automatic that the senior players will make it into the final squad.

“I will select players that will impress during the training sessions. So, if the players are to be in the final squad, they have to perform to our expected standards or beyond,” he said.

The Queens are preparing for Taini Jamison Trophy in Auckland, New Zealand from March 21 to 24 and Commonwealth Games from April 5 to 16 in Australia.
