The dream of Jacqueline Kadewere to, one day, become a journalist is almost shattered as she has been chased from Golden Radars Secondary School for failing to pay K15,000 tuition fees.
Jacqueline also has a balance of K5,000 from last term and does not have a school uniform which the school sells at K11,000.
“All my life, I wanted to become a journalist but I am staying too many days out of school due to failure to pay fees. The school authorities have also threatened to chase those of us who do not have school uniform by February 20,” Jacqueline said.
Jacqueline passed her Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education examinations at Misesa Primary School in Chigumula, Blantyre, and was selected to Chigumula Community Day Secondary School in 2016.
Jacqueline’s mother, Catherine Kadewere, moved from Misesa to Kachere due to financial problems while Jacqueline is living with her sister in Namiyango, where Golden Radars is the closest school.
Kadewere said Jacqueline is very intelligent and hard working but she is hopelessly watching her daughter’s dream of becoming a journalist slip away due to poverty.
“She is very intelligent and also hard working. She really wants to proceed with her education but I am unable to pay fees for her to continue with education. I am pleading with well-wishers to help,” Kadewere said.
Catherine added that she is facing eviction from her house in Kachere after failing to pay K13,000 in rentals.
