The Karonga cholera crisis

by

The cholera outbreak continues to wreak havoc in the lakeshore district of Karonga, with registered cases rising to 51 .
District Environmental Health Officer, Lewis Tukula, feared this week that the crisis may worsen as the district continues to experience prolonged rains. According to Tukula, the death toll remains at two.
“Unavailability of safe drinking water is another contributing factor to the rapid spread of the disease. So, dry taps remain a big worry to us, even when it comes to management of cases.
But we continue to engage all the stakeholders in order to contain the situation,” Tukula said. The picture shows some of the isolation tents that have been erected to isolate cholera patients.
