Police have expressed ignorance about the suspected kidnapping of a Lilongwe-based businesswoman Jane Nthakomwa.
Her family yesterday took to social media, announcing her disappearance.
Nthakomwa is said to have been kidnapped along the Area 14 Highway in Lilongwe on Monday evening as she was returning from her business office in the City Centre.
Social media reported that the vehicle she was driving was dumped along the Kaunda Road just beside the Gateway Mall, with a knife inside it.
“Her kidnappers allowed her to make phone calls to her husband and neighbours, where she explained her situation before all her phones went offline,” reads one of the posts on social media.
Her family appealed to the general public to help in tracing their relative.
However, Central Region Police spokesperson, Nolliettie Chihana, said in a telephone interview the law enforcers were ignorant about it.
“We do not have information about the kidnapping. Maybe ask James Kadadzera [National Police publicist],” Chihana said.
Kadadzera and Lilongwe Police Station spokesperson, Kingsley Dandaula, did not pick calls.
Jane’s husband, Shycal Partridge Nthakomwa, whose numbers circulated on the social media, did not pick our calls, too.
Meanwhile, there has been contradicting information regarding the suspected kidnapping.
