Madalitso Band, the duo of Babatoni player, Yobu Maligwa, and guitarist, Josefe Kalekeni, returns home today from their European tour which saw them holding 11 gigs.
The group, which performed at the Sauti Za Busara in Tanzania last year, dominated headlines with their performances, left the country on November 20.
They held seven shows in Sweden, one in France and three in Switzerland.
This was the duo’s first outing in Europe where, according to their manager Emmanuel Kamwenje, they earned praise.
“They are coming back tomorrow [today].They had super shows. In some places, they want them back next year. In Switzerland, they performed in a church and it was a company that organised the concert and they also want them back,” Kamwenje said.
The group travelled to Europe with co-manager Neil Nayar.
“They had one show in Lyon, France, and several promoters there were impressed with their sound. They actually have received offers for big festivals in Denmark and, as such, it was a successful tour for them,” he said.
Nayar said it was a fruitful trip and that the duo is looking forward to more opportunities.
“They are a simple band which has discovered its potential,” Nayar said.
The duo met in 2007 at Mtandire in Lilongwe before the formation of Madalitso Band.
They have an album to their credit titled Fungo La Nyemba, produced at Sterling Studio in Lilongwe in 2009.
