Local female pugilist, Anisha Bashir, has a chance to prove herself on the international scene when she faces Consolata Masunga of Kenya in a 10-round Africa Boxing Union (ABU) super lightweight title bout scheduled for next month.

The pair will meet on an undercard of Catherine Phiri and Fatuma Zarika’s World Boxing Council title fight on December 2 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Bashir and her Manager, Craig Rousseau, of No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions, confirmed the development.

“I can’t wait to get into the ring. I have been longing for a chance to vie for an international belt. I will work so hard that I should not disappoint my fans, manager and country,” Bashir said.

The 20-year-old Malawian boxer has fought 11 times, winning six by knockouts and losing five bouts, one of them through a technical knock-out.

Bashir is training in Zimbabwe as she attempts to stop the Kenyan, who has six wins, including four knock-outs, two defeats and three draws.

Rousseau said it was a breakthrough for Bashir to vie for the ABU title.

“ABU has approved the fight and we are delighted. We are now supposed to work very hard to achieve our goal. We need that belt,” he said.
