Students at Kalibu Academy in Blantyre are expected to compete in athletics during the school’s Inter-House Sports Day scheduled for tomorrow in Chileka.
The academy’s Sports Director, have Joseph Marume, said they opted for athletics because it empowers learners with skills which they can use in other sport codes.
“We just want to concentrate on one sporting activity so that we should easily monitor the players,” he said, adding that they have organised a tug-of-war contest for parents.
Athletes will compete in track events, including 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres, 800 metres, 1,500 metres, 4×100 metres relay, 4×400 metres relay and obstacle race.
Marume said institutions such as Into Sports, Bricon Sports, Reunion Insurance, Donnas Eggs, Cindy Promotional Supplies, Dezigner Enterprises, Jeremiah Stationery, Jungle Pepper Piza and Pamba Wholesalers are among the sponsors of the sports day.
