13 foreigners eye Malawi Open

At least 13 foreign players have confirmed their participation in Simbanet Malawi Open Tennis Championship scheduled for Blantyre Sports Club from today.

Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi Technical Director, Thompson Mtengula, said the four-day championship has drawn players from Zambia, Kenya, Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“This is an indication that fireworks will explode this time,” he said.

Three-time winner, Zambian Edgar Kazembe, and Kenyan Ishmael Changawa (one-time champion) are expected to light up the competition.

Kobe Mabo, Henry Banda, Jackson Kalabo, Hector Sando, Hilary Tembo and Maggie Mutala are other Zambians expected in the tournament alongside Ibrahim Kibet from Kenya.

Zimbabwean Liberty Nzula is also expected to take part in the competition alongside some Congolese players.

Local players likely to compete are Patricia Matola- Mlombwa, Mary Luhanga, James Matewere and Julius Taulo.
