Eleven Local top darts teams are expected to converge on Zomba recreation centre, Pabakery, in Thondwe for Abdul Gaffar Memorial National Darts Tournament from Saturday to Sunday.
Darts Association of Malawi (Dam) General Secretary, Chikondi Kachinjika, said all was set for the competition.
“Dam and the entire darts family wish to thank the Gaffar family for the sponsorship and promise to make this annual event a success.
“We are able to develop darts in Malawi because of this tournament. Annually, there is always a new team and players qualifying for the national finals,” Kachinjika said.
Defending champions Blantyre Sports Club, The Moth Club, SDI, Poly Cec and Kapichira will represent the Southern Region Darts League at the finals.
Cobbe Barracks and Changalume Barracks will represent the Eastern Region, with the Central Region flag-bearers being C2K Lions and Kamuzu Barracks Snipers. Police and Mzadd will come from the Northern Region.
The tournament is played on league basis in trebles, doubles and singles.
From the regional qualifiers, the tournament attracted 32 teams.
The tournament is played in memory of darts’ great, Abdul Gaffar.
At first, friends of the late Gaffar launched the tournament. Eventually, the Gaffar family, through Rashid Gaffar, adopted the competition by sponsoring it.
