The Flames 3 steps down

Malawi National Football Team has slipped three steps down the Fifa Coca-Cola World Ranking table, which Fifa revised Thursday.

The rankings reflect the quality of football in a country, thereby encouraging other teams seeking friendlies and also scouts.

The Flames are now positioned 117 having also dropped by 14 steps last month. Malawi is placed 31st out of 54 teams in Africa.

The Flames were once ranked 67 in 1993. Currently, Egypt are the top ranked team on the continent.

Overall, there are 206 ranked teams in the world with Brazil number one and Somalia at the tail-end.

According to Fifa website, the latest rankings reflect friendlies and competitive matches played since last month.

“With just 10 international friendlies taking place since the May edition, there is little surprise that most of the top 10 remain unchanged, with Brazil, Argentina and another Confederations Cup contender Germany retaining their place as the top three,” reads www. fifa.com
