Khumbo Ng’ambi in Golden Boot race

by

From nowhere, forward Khumbo Ng’ambi has entered the Golden Boot Award race in the Airtel Top 8 Cup after grabbing a hat-trick as Be Forward Wanderers beat Moyale Barracks 3-2 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.

After being reduced to a bench-warmer in most games since he joined Wanderers in 2015, Ngámbi was handed a starting role due to the absence of injured strikers Peter Wadabwa, Jafali Chande, Ishmael Thindwa and Amos Bello.

Ngámbi, who was named man of the match, is just a goal above closest contenders, Manase Chiyesa and Ndaona Ndaisi of Kamuzu Barracks, who are out of the race.

In a post-match reaction, Wanderers Head Coach, Yasin Osman, praised the former under-20 forward for displaying a solid performance.

“He is still young and he has some work to do. I am really happy for him because he got his chance to play and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands,” Osman said.
