There was tension Thursday morning after a man was found dead with his head chopped off at Nsanje Boma.
One of the witnesses at the scene, Israel Masiyano, said the head of the deceased was nowhere to be seen at the murder scene.
He said the community found the body along the road to Dinde Primary School early in the morning.
Masiyano said this is a third murder case in the district in two months and the people are living in fear.
“Crime is becoming common here in Nsanje. We are living in fear and do not know how our police officers will help us,” he said.
Nsanje Police spokesperson Agnes Zalakoma, confirmed the incident.
She identified the deceased as 70 year old Chatala Antonio who hailed from Hapalikusala Village, Traditional Authority Malemia in the district.
“The deceased was working as a security guard at a shop owned by Henry Chipojola who hails from Balaka Village in the district. On the night of 20th April he did not report for duty and was found dead the following morning,” she said.
Zalakoma said the relations of Antonio have been identified and investigations are going on to find the assailants.
This comes days after police in Lilongwe found three beheaded bodies at Bunda. The bodies and assailants are yet to be identified.
