Blue Eagles have parted ways with veteran striker, Victor Nyirenda, after the expiry of his one-year deal.
Nyirenda joined Eagles in 2015 as a free agent after leaving Be Forward Wanderers.
But the former Escom United attacker fell under the pecking order at Eagles following the arrival of new Head Coach, Audloy Makonyola.
Eagles Chairperson, Alexander Ngwala, yesterday confirmed Nyirenda’s release.
“We have not renewed Nyirenda’s contract,” Ngwala said in a brief response.
Makonyola also confirmed that Nyirenda was not in his plans for the forthcoming season.
“His contract expired so he was not given a new deal. He is still a good player but I have some players who can fill in his place,” said Makonyola who prefers young players.
Nyirenda also played for Karonga United, APR FC of Rwanda and Parja Dong Nai in Thailand.
The big striker Wednesday said he was yet to decide on his next destination.
“I was just told that they will not renew my contract. I will take a break before deciding on which club I can join,” he said.
Nyirenda’s release comes a week after Eagles signed Tizgobere Kumwenda, on a season-long deal from Silver Strikers, and blossoming attacker, Beston Jimu, from Holy Cross Ambassador.
Micium Mhone has also returned to the club after terminating his deal with Jomo Cosmos in South Africa.
Nyirenda, who has 14 caps, helped Wanderers win the Carlsberg Cup in 2015 when he scored a first-half penalty as they beat Nyasa Big Bullets 2-1 at Civo Stadium.
