Five local basketball teams are eyeing participation in the Swaziland Invitational Tournament scheduled from June 23 to 25 in Mbabane.
Bravehearts (men and ladies), Central Knights, Lady Dynamites and Mikoko have confirmed their participation in the annual tournament.
In separate interviews, Bravehearts Patron, Griffin Kalua, and Knights Team Manager, Barlet Mafuleka, confirmed that they have started preparations for the event.
“We are going to Swaziland in June not as tourists but to bring a trophy to Malawi basketball family. The gap between the countries we have visited and us is not wide. We just need support. We can easily catch up and start winning trophies,” said Kalua, whose team organised an international tournament in Lilongwe recently.
On his part, Mafuleka said his side was aiming for an improved performance in this year’s tournament.
“We have started preparations and, before the tournament, we might play some friendly games,” Mafuleka said.
The tournament’s Technical Director, Kuda Zvareva, confirmed the Malawian teams’ interest in the event.
Last year, Knights lost two consecutive opening games before beating Imbumbe from Lesotho in the last game.
