Two days after being appointed as Chairperson of Football Players’ Welfare Association, Alfred Lungu has resigned as Super League of Malawi (Sulom) Executive Committee member.

Lungu tendered his resignation letter to Sulom President, Innocent Botomani, on Wednesday.

In the letter, Lungu said he cannot serve two bodies at once.

Botomani has since accepted Lungu’s resignation.

“I can confirm that Lungu has resigned and we wish him all the best. We are happy that he will continue to serve football in his other role,” he said.

In January, Daud Suleman also resigned as Sulom vice president after being elected as Fam Executive Committee member.

Currently, Sulom Vice General Secretary, Thoko Chazema, is in the Democratic Republic of Congo on other duties whereas another member Mwase is in Ethiopia.

But Botomani said they would fill the gaps to ensure smooth operations of Sulom.

“We will meet to co-opt some individuals who can work at Sulom. Despite the departure of some members, we still communicate and keep things going at Sulom,” he insisted.
