Pitch inspection next week

With the 2017 domestic football season kicking off later this month, Football Association of Malawi (Fam) is scheduled to conduct a final inspection of stadiums next week.

During the first inspection conducted last month, Mzuzu Stadium, home to Mzuni FC and Moyale Barracks FC, was condemned as unfit for matches.

On the other hand, Karonga Stadium passed the test as the facility just needs final touches.

Fam Transfer Matching System Manager, Casper Jangale, on Wednesday said the final inspection will start on Monday.

The Super League was supposed to kickoff this Saturday, but according Jangale, the delay has worked to Karonga Stadium’s advantage as it will enable its completion.

“From the information which I have, it is only Karonga Stadium which has made tremendous progress since the day we conducted the first inspection,” he said.

“I am yet to hear from Mzuzu City Council officials [concerning Mzuzu Stadium]. We will look at the necessary areas, especially the condition of the pitches, proper stands as well as toilets.”

The season is set to kick off following TNM revival of the league’s sponsorship.

The inaugural Airtel Top 8 Cup is also scheduled to start this month.
