Despite a spate of defeats on the international front, Malawian boxers have been earmarked for more continental title fights.
Delta Force Boxing Academy trainer Clyde Musonda disclosed this after leading four Malawian boxers to a poor outing in Namibia on Saturday.
Musonda, who is from Zimbabwe, said World Boxing Organisation (WBO)-Africa officials have promised the Malawian boxers more fights.
“After the fight, I had a meeting with the WBO Africa President Mr Sam Captan from Ghana and he has promised to give the Malawian boxers more opportunities for title fights,” he said.
Musonda, however, said Captan advised the Malawian boxers to work on their endurance if they are to withstand the heat on the international level.
“His advice to me is that we have good boxers but they lack stamina,” he said.
During the trip, Malawi Defence Force boxer Crispin Moliyati retired in the seventh round of a WBO Africa fight against Namibian Paulus Moses in Windhoek on Saturday.
His compatriots, who featured on the same Independence Boxing Bonanza bill, also lost on points.
Charles Misanjo lost on points to Namibian Ebenestus Kaangundue in a welterweight six-round contest whereas Chikondi Makawa was defeated in similar fashion by Mike Shonena of Namibia.
Another Malawian Limbani Masamba also lost on points to Namibian Emmanuel Mungandjela.
Last month, Malawian Mussa Ajibu lost to Nigerian Olanrewaju Durodola in a WBO-Africa cruiserweight fight.
