There was pandemonium at Biwi Triangle in Lilongwe Tuesday morning when a tanker loaded with thousands of litres of diesel got detached from the horse and overturned, spilling some of its contents on the tarmac.
According to an eyewitness, some people, believed to be illegal fuel vendors, were rushing to the scene of the accident with empty containers to help themselves to the free fuel from the tanker oblivious to the potential danger of an explosion.
Luckily, police officers were quickly deployed to the scene and cordoned off the area to keep out those with ill-intentions, while a fire engine from the Lilongwe City Council Fire Brigade was on standby to deal with a possible fire eventuality.
