Moyale Barracks top striker Gastin Simkonda remains hospitalised at Mzuzu Hospital after being involved in an accident at Jenda in Mzimba District on Saturday.

Simkonda got injured alongside other Moyale players—Boyiboyi Chima, Lovemore Mitengo and Clifford Fukizi—who have since been discharged. The players got injured after a car they were travelling in overturned.

Moyale General Secretary, Precious Gausi, on Monday confirmed that Chima, Mitengo and Fukizi were discharged on Sunday.

“I can really confirm that the three are out but they are still under supervision. Of course, [they are] not 100 percent fine.

“Talk of Simkonda, I have not yet talked to the hospital administrators, but we understand that he is still under review. He is complaining about the shoulder and the neck,” Gausi said.

Moyale Interim Coach, Charles Kamanga, said he was shocked by the accident.

“That [accident] affected our preparations. As you know, the four are our senior players. It is our prayer that they should recover in time ahead of the new season,” he added.

Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) has since started mobilising funds to cheer the players, the association’s General Secretary, Masiya Nyasulu, confirmed.
