Darts Association of Malawi (Dam) has asked the local darts fraternity to unite if the sport is to develop and attract corporate support.
Dam National Tournament Director, Chipiliro Mzanda, said infighting threatens to derail the sport.
“For darts to improve there is need for the darts fraternity to respond to the national anthem. We are wasting our time fighting as a result it is the sport that is suffering. We can do better if we are to look at our leaders as partners in the development of our sport. But due to envy, we keep fighting those that are spending their own resources on the sport,” Mzanda said.
He did not elaborate but reports suggest that some Dam executive committee members have taken the association to task over limited national tournaments.
“We recently held a national tournament and in my view, this was a success. But going by our dreams where we would like to see the sport develop, we feel there is room for improvement,” Mzanda added.
He said Dam wants to stage at least five national tournaments this year.
“Organising a national tournament is so crucial. As leaders, we work as a bridge between the teams, players and sponsors. As leaders we negotiate with the sponsors the good of the teams and players, but on the other hand, we have players who think we never negotiated for whatever package we have been given,” Mzanda said.
