Larsen and Toubro (L&T) Construction on Friday distributed food items to orphans around Nkhoma and Phombeya Sub-stations as part of its corporate social responsibility.

The company, which is constructing 400 KV Substations in Nkhoma and Phombeya through the Millennium Challenge Account Malawi (MCA-M), donated 100 bags of maize and 50 bags of beans.

Speaking after donating the items, L& T Construction Business Development Manager for Southern Africa, Mukul Saini, said the company was committed to assist communities and orphans near the two substations.

“L&T has an annual budget for CSR programmes and we take this very seriously. We want to make sure the right community benefits from our programmes,” Saini said.

Representative of the communities, Alfred Shadreck, hailed the company for the donation.

“The orphans struggle to get food and we believe this is a great relief to them,” he said.
