Carlsberg Malawi Limited says it is committed to fight deforestation in the country and has since donated K3 million worth of tree seedlings to Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi (Wesm).

Carlsberg realises the need to conserve water which is the major ingredient in their products.

The company’s Public Relations Officer, Towera Munthali, said this last week when handing over the tree seedlings, to be planted along Mudi Dam catchment area which was depleted by encroacher’s long time ago.

“It is important that we must all protect the environment and everybody should have a responsibility to plant trees. As Carlsberg, water is essential in our products and by planting more trees, we will also be conserving the environment that provides us with our raw materials,” Munthali said.

Wesm Chairman, Paul Taylor, hailed Carlsberg for the gesture, saying the degradation of the environment in the country, particularly Mudi Dam, makes water pumping to consumers very difficult.

“Water is life, therefore, it needs to be looked after properly, by among other things planting the trees and conserving the environment along the dam,” Taylor said
