Chitipa United have accused Moyale Barracks of player-tapping involving striker Abel Mwakilama.

Chitipa’s accusations follow Moyale’s featuring of the unsettled striker in a friendly match against Zolozolo at Mzuzu Stadium over the weekend.

Chitipa General Secretary, Marshall Mwenechanya, said they were surprised that Moyale flirted with their player who scored during the game which ended 1-1.

“We have not entered into any negotiations with Moyale over the player. In fact, Mwakilama is in Moyale’s camp without the knowledge of our team,”.

“I must also clarify that we are not blocking his [Mwakilama’s] way. Let us hope that they [Moyale] will follow proper procedures. We are flexible to open talks with any team that shows interest in the player,” Mwenechanya said.

Moyale General Secretary, Precious Gausi, has since brushed aside Chitipa’s accusations, saying Mwakilama was merely attending trials with the soldiers.

“As a team, we have been showing interest in the player ever since he was with Chitipa in the Premier Division. We have been impressed with his performance and it is our wish that he should play for Moyale next season,” he said.

He added that Moyale will follow procedures when signing the 20-year-old striker whose contract with Chitipa ends in December 2017.

Some reports indicate that Mwakilama’s parents in Chitipa have encouraged him to sign for either Moyale or Blue Eagles so that he can get a job.

The 2016 Simama Premier Division Golden Boot Award winner was recently linked with a move to Nyasa Big Bullets.
