Indian manufacturer eyes Malawi market

An Indian vehicle manufacturing company, Eicher Motors, has said it has identified Malawi as a potential market for its trucks and buses.

Eicher Motors is a commercial vehicle manufacturer and its origins date back to 1948.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Malawi-India business meeting in Lilongwe on Friday, Eicher trucks and buses Division Manager for Africa, Vikrant Patnaik, said the growing transport sector in the country provides a huge market opportunity for Eicher.

“Malawi market is currently growing. It is a stable economy in Africa and compared to other countries, it seems a very important market for Eicher.

At its current stage, with its improving inflation, it is a prime market for us,” Patnaik said.

According to Patnaik, Eicher trucks and buses are designed for superior performance with better fuel economy, higher payload and faster turnaround.

“These trucks have low operating cost and, high reliability leading to higher profits,” he said.
