FDH Bank plans to establish a partnership with local councils in implementing their reforms agenda to promote transparent and accountable local government systems.

FDH Head of Transactional Banking, Government and International Organisations, Ewen Hiwa, has confirmed that the bank has identified its digital platform as a key enabler for the desired reforms.

“FDH has the largest branch network and presence in virtually every district in Malawi. It boasts of 53 branches and 91 ATMs country wide. On top of that, we have existing partnerships with most public sector institutions notably Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA ), Immigration, Registrar General, among others and all utility companies including being a Trust

Account holder for both Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba,” he said.

Hiwa said the bank is now planning to use its technological innovations to partner local government to use the bank’s digital platform to streamline the payment processes or revenue collection services for the councils.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the annual local government conference held in Mangochi recently.

The bank demonstrated to the authorities its electronic bulk payment systems which can handle payments to multiple beneficiaries at a click of a button.

Hiwa also told the conference that the solutions allow transfer of funds to non-account holders using FDH Wallet feature which is a bank led electronic wallet that allows transfer of funds directly to mobile numbers and thus creating e-value on that mobile device.

He added that the e-wallet allows cardless ATM redemption of money as an option otherwise the money could be used direct from the phone for making electronic payments.

“FDH has mobile vans that we can deploy to clusters within the councils when making payments on scheduled days where last mile connectivity is an issue. The bank is also keen to partner with the councils under our corporate social responsibility programmes to look at various areas where the bank can assist as a true partner,” he said.
