Premier Bet Wizards see business sense in Mulanje Stadium

Blantyre-based TNM Super League side, Premier Bet Wizards, believe moving their home ground to Mulanje Stadium is not a bad decision for business.

Wizards became the first team to secure the stadium for their home games after signing an agreement with owners Mulanje District Council.

The team was alternating the use of Surestream and Kamuzu stadiums in Blantyre, and Nchalo’s Kalulu Stadium for its home matches.

Technical Director and team owner, Peter Mponda, said travel expenses will not eat into the team’s budget as they have a bus.

“Travelling to match venues is not a problem for us. We have never failed to travel to a match since we joined the Super League. And Mulanje is not far from Blantyre. So, we are not worried about spending on transport for our home games,” Mponda explained.

The former Flames captain said his team would like to build a fan base in Mulanje and the surrounding districts of Thyolo and Phalombe.

He said being a relatively new team, Wizards have found it difficult to win over fans in Blantyre hence the relocation.

“Most fans in Blantyre are already committed to big team such as Bullets and Wanderers. Winning them over can never be easy. But we can do that in Mulanje and surrounding districts,” Mponda said.

He said the team wants to turn the stadium into a slaughter house for visiting teams.

Mponda hoped that fans in the district will organise support for the team.

“And these are the fans who will be filling the stadium to generate revenue for our team. We know people love the game in Mulanje and they will give us good business,” he concluded.

About K400 million was invested into the construction of the stadium, which has all basics.

The stadium is located at Mulanje Boma close to the Limbe-Muloza via Thyolo Road and is 30 minutes away from Blantyre.
