Nyasa Big Bullets Board of Trustees is continuing with efforts to resolve the turmoil at the club in a desperate attempt to entice sponsor, Nyasa Manufacturing Company (NMC), to lift its suspension of sponsorship.
Immediately after returning to the board Wednesday, the trustees announced the reinstatement of the Executive Committee which was in place before the club’s annual general meeting held on February 4 2017 in Zomba.
The development effectively sets aside the interim Executive Committee which the Supporters Committee appointed on Friday at the peak of the turmoil.
In a press release co-signed by trustees Chairperson, James Busilley and Secretary, Jim Kalua, the board said the reinstatement of the Executive Committee was aimed at helping end the misunderstandings in the club.
“The bone of contention is the glaring loopholes that exist in our constitution, which has led to various interpretations that have been a source of chaos in the running of the team,” reads the statement in part.
The trustees said procedures are being revisited to allow for proper guidance in the governance of the team so that each club structure is aware of its mandate and limits.
According to the release, the club will hold a constitutional review later this year to amend unclear sections in the club’s constitution and make it governance-friendly and reduce conflict.
The trustees pleaded with NMC to lift the suspension in the interest of the players who are preparing for the 2017 season.
An NMC official, who declined to be named, yesterday confirmed engaging in talks with Bullets stakeholders on the matter.
Bullets Supporters Committee Chairperson, Stone Mwamadi, who alongside other fans during Tuesday’s meeting in Blantyre challenged the sponsor to pay the players their February salaries and pull out, yesterday said he was yet to get a copy of the press release.
He acknowledged the return of the trustees.
Bullets Executive Committee Chairperson, Noel Lipipa, said he will back any decision aimed at putting their house in order.
Meanwhile, Bullets fans yesterday apologised to NMC for claiming that the company did not pay the players salaries for February. The fans apologised to the company during a meeting held at Kamuzu Stadium.
