Former Premier Bet Wizards’ assistant coach, Macdonald Yobe, has said he wants to take time off active football to upgrade his badges.
The former Flames player parted ways with the Super League outfit alongside the then team manager, Fundi Akidu, recently after falling out with management of the Peter Mponda team.
The pair cited personal issues as the main reason behind their departure. However, sources cited unpaid dues as being behind the duo’s exit.
Yobe said he needs to upgrade his coaching qualification.
“I will be forced to take time off [from coaching a Super League team] because of these coaching requirements [for Club Licensing System]. I hold a Fam C Licence as such I feel I have to go back in class and get a higher qualification before venturing into full-time coaching,” Yobe said.
“I must also say that I learnt a lot during my time at Wizards and I look forward to using that experience wherever I will be.”
Akidu, on the other hand, said he was yet to decide his next destination.
“Sometimes when such things happen, it is better to take your time off so that you can refresh your mind before taking up a new challenge,” said Akidu who also holds a Fam C Licence.
“Should an opportunity arise in the lower leagues, I will definitely take it up. At the same time, I will also upgrade my [coaching] licence because I feel such an opportunity will come.”
Mponda hired his former Big Bullets teammates in 2015. In recent weeks, Wizards players have been complaining about unpaid dues.
