Chief Secretary to Government Lloyd Muhara is yet to deliver judgements to cases he was handling when he was still a judge at the High Court in Lilongwe.
President Peter Mutharika appointed Muhara as Deputy Chief Secretary to Government in August last year before he was elevated to the position of Chief Secretary in December the same year.
But recent online media reports have indicated that people whose cases he was handling have been complaining, with some visiting the High Court in Lilongwe to find out what is happening to their cases.
In his response to a question on the issue, Muhara said although he is currently working at the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), he has been writing the judgements.
“Every night I dedicate some three to four hours to judgement writing and now only very few files are remaining un-touched. Most are now being typed, others are being checked after typing. By end of April, all remaining files will be done. For the past months, I have been sleeping an average of five hours partly due to this task,” Muhara said.
The Daily Times understands that at least 22 people have been following up on their cases at the High Court in Lilongwe.
Judiciary spokesperson, Mlenga Mvula, said people concerned should not be worried as Muhara will soon deliver judgments on the cases.
“As per procedure, a judge who hears a matter to the end is the one who writes the judgement. Maybe he is busy with his current office. We will liaise with him. But we know he will write the judgements,” Mvula said.
Muhara was, before being transferred to the OPC, working in the Civil Division of the High Court in Lilongwe.
