Foundation for Community and Capacity Development (Foccad), a non-governmental organisation based in Nkhotakota, recently donated assorted tools to youth after the completion of six-month vocational training.

The tools, worth over K1 million, include four sewing machines, carpentry tool boxes and planks, and were donated to 18 youth who graduated in carpentry and tailoring.

The event, which took place at Ambali Village in the area of Senior Chief Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota, was graced by district social welfare and Malawi Council for the Handicapped representatives.

The vocational training started in July 2016 and ended in December 2016. It was facilitated by Ambali Community-based Organisation (CBO), which also provided tutors for the students.

The graduates included 10 men and eight women who, through their groups, are expected to venture into small scale businesses to sustain themselves.

In his remarks, Ambali CBO Director, Ali Super Dambolachepa, hailed Foccad for reaching out to the youth.

He further asked the youth to put the tools to good use.

Foccad Executive Director, Dan Eddie Nthara, appreciated for role played by Ambali CBO in making the project successful.

“We wanted to empower the youth, especially the physically challenged, in the area,” Nthara said.
