Seasoned golfer, Hudson Kamtwanje, on Wednesday beat 48 other golfers to emerge champion of the Medical Aid Society of Malawi (Masm) Ball Pool played at Blantyre Sports Club.
Playing off handicap 13, Kamtwanje scored 20 points to count out Collen Smith who settled for second position.
In an interview, Kamtwanje could not hide his excitement.
“It has been a long time since I had a podium finish so I am very happy.
I trained very hard and I was confident I would win,” he said.
He went home with a trophy and a Game shopping voucher from Masm.
Up-and-coming golfer, Gift Gondwe, settled for third place also with 20 points.
In the ladies’ category, Harriet Marrian emerged the champion after scoring 20 points, one ahead of Bose Kamphulusa who was second with 19 points.
Masm Chief Commercial Officer, Andrew Ngomwa, said they organised the tournament to brief the golfers on new developments at Masm, including the scrapping off of shortfalls on medical bills.
“We need our customers to understand that they will no longer be charged shortfalls when they access medical assistance in hospitals,” Ngomwa said.
“We also wanted to encourage them to take some interest in understanding what our various schemes offer.”
