Sulom race

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) Treasurer, Tiya Somba Banda and vice- General Secretary, Thoko Chazema, have been linked with the league governing body’s vice-presidency.

The post will fall vacant once the incumbent Daud Suleman earns a post at Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Executive Committee member to replace Alfred Gunda, who is now the association’s General Secretary.

Gunda took over from Suzgo Nyirenda, who now works as Council of Southern Africa Football Associations’ vice-General Secretary.

Suleman is set to go unopposed during Fam’s forthcoming elections.

Over the weekend, Chazema said teams have approached him to take over as Sulom vice-President.

“It is true that several teams in our league have approached me to be the next vice- President of Sulom and I thought it wise to take up the challenge. I want to assure teams that once selected, I will make sure that our league remains competitive,” Chazema said.

However, Somba said he was yet to decide on the elections.

He said holding such a position could be a blessing.

“I am not in a hurry to take the position, but it is something I can consider if given that chance. I have been in Sulom for seven years and I know what it takes to run the league,” Somba said.

Sulom will meet on January 16 to discuss the issue of Suleman’s replacement.

The meeting will also discuss the prize presentation of the just-ended season
