Gabadinho Mhango’s hunt for his first South Africa Premiership goal in a month ended on Saturday when he put Bidvest Wits in motion in a 3-1 win over Free State Stars.
Mhango scored the opener before come-back strike partner, Phakamani Mahlambi, added two more goals to send Wits to second place with 24 points, one point behind leaders, Cape Town City. It was Wits’ first win in four games.
The Flames striker took his league tally to four goals—at par with countryman Robert Ng’ambi of Platinum Stars and eight behind Orlando Pirates’ leading striker Tendai Ndoro.
The Malawian has five goals in all competitions, including the MTN8 Cup which he won with Wits.
Gabadinho has been a revelation at Wits with his electric pace, high work ethic and trickery, but his Coach Gavin Hunt is, at times, unhappy with his wastage in front of goal.
“He will drive me crazy that lad‚” Hunt told newspaper recently about the former Bloemfontein Celtic and Nyasa Big Bullets’ 24-year-old player.
“We need to improve his play without the ball. And I’m trying to do that in various positions. He needs a lot of work. Training ground work.”
