Renowned boxers Wilson Masamba and Malani Kayuni have promised a sparkling fight as the duo clash in a 10-round non-title bout at Obrigado Leisure Park in Mzuzu tomorrow.
Masamba said he was not under pressure considering that it is his opponent who challenged him for the fight.
“I defeated his brother [Osgood] recently in Blantyre, so I think he has come to revenge,” Masamba said.
“I cannot say much, but I promise [fans] that this will be a good fight. I am very much prepared for him. I want to show him that I do not play with an opponent the moment I step into the ring.”
Malani dismissed the claims that he challenged Masamba as a way of revenging on his elder brother’s behalf.
“That was another bout. Whether he really won or not does not bother me. This is another fight. I have a strong feeling that it will be a good fight,” Kayuni said.
“I do not have a gift of foreseeing what is going to happen tomorrow. Nobody knew that Isaac Chilemba could retire in such way. In other words, I have prepared for the fight and I promise a competitive bout.”
This will be a first bout to be staged in Mzuzu after a six-month drought.
Bagidadi Boxing Promotions believe Masamba-Kayuni fight could mark a resurrection of the sport in the region.
The promoter’s General Secretary, Happy Kumwenda, attributed the boxing drought to lack of money.
Masamba has since hailed the promoter, who according to him, pays boxers reasonably well after every fight.
