Invincible Bricks have retained the Southern Zone Basketball League (Sozobal) championship after winning the best of-three series.
In the final games, which drew top-four league sides after the regular season, Bricks defeated Magang’a whereas Chanco beat Mikoko.
Magang’a finished on second position with Cobbe claiming the third slot.
In the ladies’ division, Mystics were crowned champions with Cobbe Ladies finishing as runners-up while Lady Bricks ended on third position.
In the juniors’ league, Firestorm emerged champions with Lions finishing on second position whereas High-Flyers ended on third place.
Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the juniors’ division was Henry Kachule. Dumisani Kawiya claimed the MVP for the senior men.
Sozobal Treasurer, Kondwani Kabowa, hailed United General Insurance for donating K500,000 towards medals and logistics.
“The idea to use the best of-three series made the finale competitive and exciting. Most basketball supporters were keenly following events and the championship in all the three divisions were decided on the last day,” he said.
Kabowa said the resurrection of the ladies and juniors’ leagues had given Sozobal hope for the league’s growth.
