AXA coach catches fire

An Axa Executive Coach belonging to AGMA Limited on Monday caught fire at Kadekeshi within Chikangawa Forest in Mzimba.

Northern Region Police Publicist, Peter Kalaya, told The Daily Times. that the fire started from the back of the bus at around 7pm.

Kalaya said the bus was going to Mzuzu from Blantyre and it was driven by Laneki Kumbatira.

“In fact, the driver has said he just noticed people shouting, alerting him to the fire. The fire started at the back and he [the driver] stopped after he noticed the fire. However, there were no casualty in the accident. Passengers even managed to escape with their property,” Kalaya said.

He, however, said the cause of the fire is not yet known as the police are still investigating.

However, one of the passengers, Lyness Kumwenda, who boarded the bus in Lilongwe, said the bus was producing a strange sound which caused anxiety among the passengers.

AGMA Limited authorities refused to comment, saying they will release a statement soon.
