Blue Eagles’ Assistant Coach, Wilson Chidati, has described their exit in the Fisd Challenge Cup after losing 0-1 to Be Forward Wanderers on Saturday, as a blessing in disguise.
However, Chidati admitted that their cup drought, stretching back to 2011 when they won the Carlsberg Cup, was worrying.
“It is sad that we do not perform well in cup games. May be it is a blessing in disguise that we lost to Wanderers. It is time for us to focus our energy on the TNM Super League championship race,” Chidati said in a post-match interview.
“We are on a good position on the log table [number two with 45 points]. On Wednesday, we are playing at home against Wanderers. I can see that Wanderers are excited with the victory, but let them visit us. We will have home ground advantage.”
During the dull semifinal, Wanderers qualified to the final of the cup courtesy of Bongani Kaipa’s 80th minute header from Mike Kaziputa’s right flank corner-kick.
A win tomorrow can take Eagles back to the top and displace Nyasa Big Bullets who are ahead on goal difference.
Eagles defeated Wanderers 2-1 in the league’s first round at the same Blantyre venue.
