Malawi Netball Queens will kick-start their Fast5 Netball World Series’ campaign against hosts, Australia, at Hisense Arena in Melbourne on Saturday.

The Queens will eventually meet England and Jamaica on the same day, before entertaining rivals, South Africa, and Fast5 holders, New Zealand, on Sunday.

Based on their preliminary round performance, teams will proceed to the play-offs to determine champions and rankings.

Malawi’s Assistant Coach, Sam Kanyenda, before departure backed the format as an ideal one to help the Queens overcome New Zealand for the first time in this competition’s history.

“The Fast5 format, at least, gives us a chance to beat the top- four teams. In the past, we have recorded victories over Australia, England and Jamaica using Fast5 format. Now we should aim at beating New Zealand and improve our ranking,” he said.

For the first time, the Queens will be without skipper, Caroline Mtukule- Ngwira, who is on maternity break, whereas shooter, Sindie Simtowe-Msowoya, is injured.

Malawi squad:

Grace Mwafulirwa- Mhango, Joanna Kachilika, Towera Vinkhumbo- Nyirenda, Takondwa Lwazi, Bridget Kumwenda, Thandie Galeta-Saenda, Jane Chimaliro, Jessica Mazengera-Sanudi, Joyce Mvula and Mwawi Kumwenda.
