The inaugural Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) Women’s Football Championship has been shifted from this month to September 11 to 24 in Kampala, Uganda.

Malawi Women’s National Football Team hope to participate in the regional competition after sending a request to Cecafa secretariat.

Cecafa was meeting yesterday in Uganda to decide on Malawi’s request.

National Women’s Football Association (NWFA) Chairperson, Severia Chalira, on Wednesday said her association was keeping fingers crossed on the request.

“We are just waiting for confirmation. We are ready to start preparations anytime. Funds are available for the competition,” she said on the sidelines of Fifa Women’s Football Administration course in Lilongwe.

According to New Times of Rwanda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Uganda have confirmed participation.

Eritrea, Djibouti, Zanzibar and Somalia are yet to confirm their participation. Namibia, Malawi and Zimbabwe have applied for guests spots.

Meanwhile, the two-day women’s football administration course was concluded on Wednesday in Lilongwe.

Over 20 participants from various clubs in the region honed their skills in football administration.

Fam Vice-President, James Mwenda, said the course would contribute to the development of the game.

“Most of the sports administrators had not attended formal training and we believe that after the course, we will have qualified administrators,” he said.
