A South Korea-based Christian global youth organisation has expressed interest to expand and improve youth development activities in the country.

Founder of International Youth Fellowship (IYF) Ock Soo Park met President Peter Mutharika at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe yesterday.

Mutharika is the global youth champion on higher education.

Park said his organisation plans to establish a centre for excellence for youth in Lilongwe

He said through the centre, the organisation would like to engage teachers and lecturers in mindset training for the youth.

“Give us 10 years, we will complete all works. Our aim is to educate at all levels of education. We have done this in other countries like Kenya and would like to do the same here in Malawi,” he said.

In his remarks Mutharika said their requests will complement government’s efforts.

“Skills and knowledge are the motivating force of the economic growth and development of a country considering also the emergency of globalisation and technology changes that are taking place in the world,” he said.

Mutharika further said his government will support IYF as it embarks on training the youth in Christian values and globalised mindset change through international exchange and volunteer work.

Minister of Labour and Man power Development, Henry Mussa, said the organisation will commission its institution at Kamuzu Institute of Sports.

“What is lacking in Malawi is the change of mindset and the coming in of IYF will help us open up the youth in the country,” he said.

IYF was established in 1995 and currently operates in 80 countries including Malawi.
