Veteran pugilist, Wilson Masamba, will face Tanzanian boxer, Muddy ‘The Machine’ Elia in an international bout on August 7 at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe.
The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) fighter lost his last two international bouts in Namibia and Tanzania, but he declared that he was ready for the forthcoming bout.
“I am 100 percent fit and I will win this fight. I want to give my fans a good fight. Boxing is a sport which I want people to enjoy watching,” Masamba said.
The Malawian boasts of 27 victories and seven losses in his 34 bouts, whereas Elia has won 15 bouts and lost four.
In his last international bout, Masamba was knocked out in 47 seconds by Namibian, Jeremiah Nakathila, in Windhoek in December last year before losing again a few months ago in Tanzania.
The MDF combatant was confident that he would restore his pride.
“I was disappointed that I lost in that way but I think time has come for me to show that I am still one of the best boxers,” he said.
Malawian boxers have been performing poorly against international boxers.
Recently, Masamba’s younger brother, Limbani, was also knocked out on home soil in the first round by Congolese, Mbia Nkaku, during an Africa Boxing Union (ABU) title fight at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
The bout has been organised by Ngwenyama Boxing Promotions. The stables’ Managing Director, Patrick Ngwenyama, said preparations were going on smoothly.
“We expect to watch an exciting bout because both the boxers are good.
We have also arranged a number of bouts to spice up the event,” he said.
