Malawi Under-17 National Team striker, Peter Banda, is the joint leading scorer for the Cosafa Cup Youth Championship in Port Louis, Mauritius.

Banda, son to former Nyasa Big Bullets attacking midfielder, late Chikondi Banda, has netted three goals, at par with Nicholas Mulilo of Zambia.

Banda was also voted man-of-the-match in the 5-0 demolition of Kenya on Tuesday after grabbing a hat-trick to guide Malawi to the semifinals.

Frank Chizuze and Francisco Madinga netted a goal each for the Junior Flames, who date South Africa Friday.

Banda is the second Junior Flames’ player to receive a man-of-the-match award at the competition after Madinga won a similar accolade in the first game against Madagascar.

Another Junior Flames attacker, Chizuze, has two goals at the championship.

Zambian striker, Damiano Kola, Fabrizio Mosa (Madagascar), Kenneth Mukuria (Kenya), Siphamandla Ntuli (South Africa) and George Nyimbili from Zambia have two goals each.

Raphael Banda for Malawi has netted one goal at the competition.

The Junior Flames have scored seven goals and conceded four in three games.

They are also the only team to score five goals in a single game at the tournament this year.

On their way to the semifinals, Malawi beat Madagascar 2-1 in the first game before losing 3-0 to Zambia.
