Newly-crowned Presidential Cup champions, Nyasa Big Bullets, have been charged for pitch invasion after their supporters invaded the pitch after the final whistle, contrary to the competition’s rules and regulations.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) announced on Monday that Bullets were given 48 hours to respond to the charge.
“Fam charged BB for displaying unsporting behavior during their game against Moyale Barracks at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday, July 16, 2016,” reads part of the association’s statement.
Bullets contravened the cup’s rules and regulations which state that a club that fails to control its supporters shall be fined K500, 000.
Anyone, who invades the pitch, shall be fined not less than K350, 000.
Bullets chairperson, Sam Chilunga, said they would engage Fam to negotiate for a lesser fine.
“It is unfortunate. The emotions were high during the game, but I think going forward, as clubs we need to educate our fans because our infrastructure is not in the right way to prevent such things,” Chilunga said.
Bullets won the cup for the second time in its history after beating Moyale 4-3 on post-match penalties. The game had ended one-all in regulation time.
