British citizen, Brendan Rendall, has so far raised K25 million to go towards the construction of a science block at Friends of Mulanje Orphans (Fomo) base in Mulanje.
Rendall embarked on a fundraising run from Chitipa to Nsanje on June 29 this year. He finished the exercise within 27 days, after covering a distance of 1, 139 kilometres.
“I am glad that I have achieved what I set out to do. So far, I have raised K25 million and I expect more funds [to trickle in] because I still expect contributions from other people. I expect to reach out to 5, 000 children through my intervention,” said Rendall on Tuesday.
Rendall was covering a distance of 40 kilometres a day, and arrived in Nsanje without any health concerns.
Fomo was founded in 2000 by United Kingdom-based Mary and Keith Woodworth. The organisation manages 13 orphan centres around Mulanje which between them provide security, education and support to 6,000 orphans .
