Isaac Chilemba back to recharge

A fortnight after losing a world title fight to Sergey Kovalev in Russia, South African-based pugilist, Isaac ‘Golden Boy’ Chilemba, has returned to his home of origin for a five-day breather.

The Blantyre-born fighter, 29, was the centre of attraction as he jetted in through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe on Monday.

“It feels great to be home. If I have an opportunity, I will meet some of the boxers in Blantyre, but I would love to meet Mr President [Peter Mutharika] during my visit,” said the pugilist, while admitting that he was still haunted by his loss to Kovalev in what was the Malawian’s second straight defeat.

Chilemba also lost to Eleider Alvarez in another fight in November last year.

“It was a good fight but I wasn’t happy with the way I performed. I gave my best shot but it was not my day. We might have a rematch sometime next year,” said Chilemba, whose record is 24-3-2.
